Dalgliesh episode four The Black Tower – plot

Iconic detective Adam Dalgliesh solves another unusual mystery based on the much-loved crime novels.

Episode four is the second and final part of this adaptation of PD James’ The Black Tower.

As with last week’s take on Shroud for a Nightingale, Chief Inspector Dalgliesh watches on as tensions unravel in a closed-off community – in this case, a care home for the disabled.

And viewers will see Dalgliesh slowly begin to unwrap the case, and find answers.

Shady spiritual leader Wilfred Anstey announces that he will transfer the Grange to the Ridgewell Trust and calls a vote on whether he should continue as adviser ahead of the trip to Lourdes…

Despite Eric and Helen’s plot to usurp Wilfred, the majority of the Grange vote for him to stay, ensuring the Lourdes trips will continue.

Grace’s post mortem deems her death to be non-suspicious and Dalgliesh struggles to gather enough evidence to charge Wilfred.

What year is Dalgliesh episode four The Black Tower set?

PD James’ best-selling Inspector Adam Dalgliesh Mysteries is set in mid 1970’s England.

In fact, The Black Tower was originally published in 1975, too.

The series follows Adam Dalgliesh, who is still grieving his wife’s death, as he solves unusual murders and reveals buried secrets.

In fact, he’s due to return to the Netflix series to play former Prime Minister Tony Blair in season five – the only person to play two characters in The Crown.

Fans of The Nest will recognise Mirren Mack, who plays Maggie Hewson in The Black Tower.

Meanwhile, The Jury’s Steven Mackintosh stars as Wilfred Anstey.

Where was Dalgliesh filmed?

Despite being set in England, the series was entirely filmed in Belfast.

The streets around the old Belfast Telegraph building were transformed into a film set back in June 2021.

Dalgliesh cast and filming crews were spotted in Union Street, in Belfast city centre.

The Irish News building situated on Donegall Street, in Belfast, was also chosen for the filming of Dalgliesh.

The Edwardian building was turned into a 1970’s train station for the detective drama.
