Craig Revel Horwood Defends Strictly Vote Amid Aston Exit Backlash

Judge involved in Twitter row

| Updated:

Craig Revel Horwood has been getting it in the neck since Aston Merrygold and Janette Manrara were booted off Strictly in Sunday’s shock results programme.

The show’s ‘Mr Nasty’ gave the popular pair a meagre four after they performed a Viennese Waltz on Saturday, which contributed to them having to face a dance-off against Mollie King and AJ Pritchard.

And when the JLS man and his American dance partner were then given the old heave-ho, many viewers slammed the judge – with former Strictly star James Jordan even claiming that Craig had “ruined” the series.

But the 52-year-old has come out fighting, taking to Twitter to defend his actions.

A lot of fans felt that Aston and Janette were too good to be voted off, with their displays throughout the series warranting a pass to the next round at least.

But Craig – who voted for Mollie and AJ in the dance-off – was having none of it.

He tweeted: “Dear all, the judges vote on the dance-off alone, NOT past performances or potential performances in the future! If you wanna have ur say, VOTE!”

One of Craig’s followers replied to his message by hinting at a conspiracy: “It’s obvious that Debbie [McGee] is going to win regardless of who gets the most votes.”

But that suggestion seemed to get Craig’s back up. He retorted: “That, darling, is the biggest load of rubbish I’ve read to date!

“[The] audience can turn [the] leaderboard on its head, and in the final [the] judges scores mean 0.”

Another of his followers then chipped into the argument, saying: “Please please please stop with the unfair marking tho. The 4 was not fair.”

Craig responded curtly: “In YOUR opinion.”

Two people who don’t seem to be paying much attention to the whole Aston furore are Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez.

Ever since the series started, people have been speculating whether the pair have become romantically involved.

And according to the Metro, the former Emmerdale actress went out for breakfast with the Spanish dancer this week.

The newspaper quoted an onlooker as saying: “Gemma was dressed down in her sweats, and they were like any other couple, looking over their phones at the table.”

The source added that they “didn’t care who saw them together”.
