Corrie star Tristan Gemmill hits back at fans’ accusations of storyline blunder

Viewers wanted to know how come Robert Preston looks so different - and they don't just mean his hair...

It’s a storyline that has had Coronation Street viewers well and truly baffled.

Bistro owner Robert Preston was sentenced to prison after attacking the man he thought had kidnapped his girlfriend Michelle (Kym Marsh).

He’s been inside for a good few weeks, but has now finally been released and made his way back to the Weatherfield cobbles.

But what fans want to know is – how on earth did he get that amazing tan?

Supposedly banged up in the nick, they couldn’t help but comment on how actor Tristan Gemmill has returned to the Street, looking like he’s just spent a month somewhere extremely sunny and exotic!

Robert is back in Weatherfield with a tan to rival a Strictly pro dancer.

And it’s made even more noticeable by his new undyed hair.

While some of his on-screen pals and Weatherfield residents have commented on that – calling him a silver fox and joking he’d give Phillip Schofield a run for his money – no one has mentioned his mahogany suntan.

But viewers definitely did – and weren’t holding back.

One joked that it looked like he had been on a spa break, while another suggested he must have been regularly using the prison sunbeds!

Actor Tristan wasn’t going to miss out on the fun, replying to a couple of fans to “explain”.

He joked to one fan on Twitter that Robert “did a lot of work in the prison garden”.

And when his co-star Colson J Smith (Craig Tinker) also made reference to it, Tristan replied: “What can I say? It was an open prison – very open!!”

Well, who knew that November in Weatherfield was so sunny?
