“Yes, it’s always very sad to see somebody go but Kate Oates has done very well on the show.

“We wish her the best and we’re looking forward to working with Iain MacLeod. It’s all change – as usual on Corrie. It’s all very exciting.”

Sally also talked about another surprise departure for the show, with her on-screen daughter Rosie Webster, played by Helen Flanagan, going on maternity leave this week.

Helen chatted yesterday on Loose Women about her departure from the show, revealing that her pregnancy was a surprise and so her exit from the soap was unplanned.

Sally told Lorraine that she’s devastated that Helen is leaving the show already: “Oh, Lorraine, I’ll miss her so much.”

“We cried so much the other day when we filmed her leaving scenes. We have still got one scene to do on Friday but I’m going to miss her, she’s a sweetie.”

“I’ve got a new story, it’s so exciting. We started filming last week and it is bubbling along.

“Sally does a good deed that doesn’t go very well for her, everything goes wrong. It’s a great storyline though and very exciting. I can’t wait for you all to see it!”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
