Jennie McAlpine has given Corrie fans hope that one of the soap’s most popular characters might be back one day soon.
And it would be AMAZING (but very noisy) if she returned!
In an interview with Lorraine on her morning chat show, Jennie suggested that her character’s onscreen mum Cilla Brown (Wendi Peters) might well return to the cobbles.
Oh. My. Gosh.
Speaking on the show, Jennie speculated that Fiz Stape’s scheming mum Cilla could facilitate her temporary exit from the show.
Jennie and her husband Chris Farr are expecting their second child together, so Jennie will be leaving the ITV soap on maternity leave later this year.
Explaining that her Corrie bosses have only just heard the news of Jennie’s real life pregnancy, she admitted she didn’t know how her exit would be written into the soap storylines.
But she had a very good suggestion…

She said: “I’ve no idea how I’m going to be written out for that amount of time. Cilla could rear her not so ugly head again but I don’t know cause I’ve just sprung it on them so they’re frantically thinking what to do now.”
Cilla is currently living in Wolverhampton, where Fiz visited her for a prolonged period over Christmas (as Jennie took time off to appear in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!).
In an interview in January, actress Wendi said of a possible return: “I’m not planning a return, no. It’s always lovely that’s she still mentioned, really nice. I dip in now and then to see what Fiz and Chesney are up to. Who knows? She may pop back again this year.”
Jennie also joked that the cameramen will have to try their hardest to cover her growing baby bump, adding: “To cover it, we will have to use a basket of laundry, or I can be holding flowers and holding a tray. […] Unless Fiz gets pregnant, who knows?”
Jennie and Chris already have a young son named Albert.
