Coronation Street bosses in talks to bring back former fan favourite

Who could it be?

Coronation Street bosses are reportedly in talks to bring an old fan favourite back to the cobbles.

The Daily Star Sunday spoke to the ITV soap’s Executive Producer, Kate Oates, who revealed the exciting news.

But she wouldn’t say exactly who they have in mind.

Kate told the paper: “We are having a discussion about bringing someone back. It’s a very well-established character…a long-standing name.

“It wouldn’t be for a long period. It would be a short stint. I can’t say more than that at this stage. But fans should watch this space.”

Hmm…intriguing.

The rumour mill is already going into overdrive with names such as Jim McDonald, Curly Watts, Bet Lynch and Jason Grimshaw flying around.

Coronation Street is going to seem a bit empty in the coming months as several big names leave the cobbles.

Catherine Tyldesley, who plays dizzy barmaid Eva Price, will depart the show this summer and cast members recently said goodbye to Shayne Ward, factory boss Aidan Connor, at his farewell party.

Next week sees the departure of villainous Pat Phelan as his murderous crimes are uncovered meaning actor Connor McIntyre will be bowing out.

However, Corrie announced last week that they’ve cast two new female characters to shake things up.

Trainee hairdresser Emma Brooker will start an apprenticeship at Audrey’s hair salon.

She’s played by young actress Alexandra Mardell, who graduated from Guildford School of Acting in 2015.

She’ll be followed by another new character called Kayla, who set to cause trouble for two regulars.

“Kayla will be working in Speed Daal (Zeedan Nazir’s new restaurant),” revealed Kate. “She’s going to be causing trouble for Bethany and Craig…”

Kayla will be played by Mollie Winnard, who has previously starred in the Kay Mellor drama Love, Lies and Records.

And old favourites Claudia Colby and Lewis Archer (Rula Lenska and Nigel Havers) will also be popping up in Weatherfield in the coming months.

Sounds like an exciting time.
