Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan reveals details of her exit from the cobbles

The actress is eight months pregnant

Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan has revealed details about her exit from the soap as she heads off on maternity leave this week to have her second baby.

The Corrie star, who is better known as the cobbles’ Rosie Webster, is due in June and chatted to the Loose Women panel this morning about how she will bow out of the soap.

Helen also revealed that her baby was a total surprise – and while her daughter Matilda, who she shares with partner Scott Sinclair, was planned, this pregnancy came as a real shock.

She told Loose Women host Andrea McLean: “It was a surprise – I’d just gone back to Coronation Street and I was really enjoying that, but obviously it’s a blessing and I feel really lucky to be expecting another baby, but it wasn’t in the plan.

“I don’t know what I’m having, as long as the baby is healthy you don’t mind what you have, do you? A boy or a girl would be lovely. ”

The actress also chatted about how she has already filmed her exit…

“I have just filmed by leaving scenes, I’ve still got two days left of filming and I was really emotional. I’ve loved being back – it’s brilliant and I’m going to miss it.

“I’m really close to Sally (Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster), and so close to Brooke (Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster) who plays my sister. I’ll miss seeing them on a day-to-day basis but obviously I’ll stay in touch and still see them every few weeks.”

Helen also joked about how it is hard to keep her blossoming baby bump hidden while filming…

“During filming the crew will say ‘oh sorry, we have got to go again because we can see too much of the baby bump’ but there is only so much you can do to hide it! They do a good job.”

Helen hinted that her exit from the soap is going to be humorous rather than serious – and that it is in keeping with her light-hearted character: “I’m going out in very much a Rosie style – the storyline is hilarious. But I have enjoyed that about my character, doing comedy has been great.”

Despite admitting that her exit from the soap is a surprise, she revealed that her and Scott are both thrilled about the prospect of being parents again – even though she didn’t tell Scott that he was going to be a dad again straight away.

Scott was working away from home when Helen found out she was pregnant again: “I knew I was pregnant and remember doing a test and telling my mum, but I wanted to tell Scott to his face. I knew he would be pleased, so I was glad that I waited and didn’t tell him on the phone!”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
