Christine Lampard clarifies meaning behind baby daughter’s ‘old-fashioned’ name

It has a very sentimental meaning behind it

Christine Lampard has said her baby daughter Patricia’s name is “old-fashioned” but it has a very sentimental meaning behind it.

The presenter, who welcomed her first child in September last year, became emotional as she returned to Loose Women on Thursday after her maternity leave.

Opening up about motherhood, Christine spoke about her baby girl’s sweet name and admitted she and husband Frank Lampard went “very old-school” when deciding what to name her.

She explained: “It’s very old-fashioned, very traditional but it was Frank’s mum’s name and that’s where it comes from.

“Patricia was Frank’s mum, who I sadly never got to meet. Frank was obviously incredibly close to his mum and it’s one of his biggest sadness’s  that I never got to meet her. She passed away the year before we met.

“So we’ve gone with the traditional grandmother name and it’s Patricia Charlotte, which is my grandmother’s name.”

Christine added: “We’ve gone very old-school with the name. A lot of people said, ‘oh that’s a very old name’ but there’s a link and it means a huge deal to [Frank].”

Christine also revealed she has a picture of Frank’s mum at their home and she often shows it to her baby daughter.

The star added: “There’s a lovely picture of Frank’s mum at home and when I’m feeding her I’ll say, ‘That’s your granny, who you’re named after.’ It means a great deal to us.”

Speaking about how footballer Frank – who has two daughters Luna, 13, and Isla, 11, from a previous relationship – has been with Patricia, Christine said he’s doing “less nappies” than her as he’s working away in Derby.

She said: “He’s in Derby so he’s doing less nappies than me, put it that way! But we’re to-ing and fro-ing a lot of the time.

“When he is doing the nappies he’s very good, but not as much as I would like.”

Christine became emotional as she discussed moments relating to her Caesarean section.

She said she became a “complete emotional mess” in the later stages of Patricia’s delivery.

Christine added: “A complete emotional mess – I was sort of fine up until the moment the doctor said, ‘You’re about to become a mum,’ I just said, ‘Oh my god.’

“It just gets me every time, and I think, ‘Oh my gosh I really am,’ and that was me.”

She also said: “Nothing scares me but in the early stages I thought, ‘Oh what if she cries, what if I don’t have the right stuff with me?’

“The first time I got caught breastfeeding, I mean caught out as I didn’t know how to do this in public. But she did it and she hasn’t gone hungry.”
