Peter Kay’s Car Share fans on tenterhooks ahead of tonight’s big finale episode

Will John and Kayleigh get a happy ending?

Car Share fans have taken to social media ahead of tonight’s grand finale, to share their nerves and excitement about the episode.

They’re hoping for a happy ending for John and Kayleigh after the disappointment of the end of series two of the sitcom.

Fans were devastated when John and Kayleigh didn’t get together at the end of the show, after Kayleigh told John she loved him.

They even set up a petition to demand more episodes, signed by more than 100,000 people,  so stars Peter Kay and Sian Gibson decided to oblige.

The long-awaited episode finally airs tonight on BBC1 at 10pm, and fans are really, really hoping Kayleigh and John get the ending they deserve.

“May we all receive the ending we’ve been hoping for,” said one fan. While another shared a gif of a nervous-looking Kermit the Frog!

“I’ve invested emotionally in John & Kayleigh’s relationship,” said one devoted fan. “This has to end well.”

One fan even added sternly: “If they don’t seal their love tonight I’m kicking off.”

Star of the show Peter Kay, who plays John alongside his friend Sian Gibson, who plays Kayleigh, said he was overwhelmed by the response to the ending of the second series.

“We always knew the second series would end that way, and we knew people might be a bit miffed but we never thought they’d be so devastated,” Peter told the Bolton News. “We decided to write another episode that hopefully gave the characters a resolve.”
