Britain’s Got Talent fans ‘expose’ Ben Hart’s magic trick

Some called it "obvious" and said it's like "day one at magic school"

Telly fans are claiming to have figured out Ben Hart’s magic after his semi-final performance on Britain’s Got Talent.

During last night’s episode (May 30), the 28-year-old magician impressed the judges with an act that saw him making cards and matchsticks disappear and reappear in unexpected places.

At one point, he made a card that Simon Cowell had tucked safely under his hand vanish into thin air.

In another trick, he tore a match from a matchbook, swallowed it and handed the book to Alesha Dixon, who opened it and found the match had returned, now burned black.

Later, Simon chose a nine of clubs from the deck at random and when Alesha unfolded the matchbook, it had turned into the nine of clubs.

But cynical viewers rushed to Twitter to tell others they knew exactly how he did his magic.

One said: “With Ben Hart’s act, that card had a blue background on it and the one Alesha had a blank background. When he said hold the matchsticks, he was giving her a blank card, so figured out.”

Another added: “Ben very clever work with left hand and changing matchbook for blank backyard with match striking strip on it..could see it thru hand (sic).”

Another tweeted: “#BGT Ben Hart, so obvious how he did the tricks. Day one at magic school. Get some real talent.”

A third wrote: “Sorry Ben Hart on #BGT, I saw how you did every single one of those tricks mate. Needs work I’m afraid old bean.”

Another said: “This final is looking so bad, Ben got through I could see him move the card out of Simon’s hand.”

But others enjoyed what they saw, hailing the act as “brilliant” and “amazing”.

Someone else tweeted: “Ben Hart absolutely baffles me, I NEED to know how he does these magical things.”

It appears that the majority of the viewership loved Ben’s performance, as he ended up winning the public vote to secure his place in Sunday’s finale.

Speaking afterwards to co-hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, Ben said “it’s amazing” that the British public enjoy watching magic acts.

After Ben went through, the judges had to choose a second act for the final – either magician Graeme Mathews or singer Mark McMullan.

Simon voted last and as it went to deadlock, a public vote decided the winner and Mark’s name was announced.

He said of the result: “As I’ve said from the start of every performance, I wouldn’t be here without everyone who has supported me. Thank you for getting behind me.”

The other acts set to appear in the BGT final are: magic dog duo Dave & Finn, children’s choir Flakefleet Primary School, magicians 4MG, singer Siobhan Phillips, singer Colin Thackery and comedian Kojo Anim.
