BGT star Loren Allred backed by John Barrowman amid ‘fix’ controversy

She got the Britain's Got Talent Golden Buzzer

| Updated:

BGT singing star Loren Allred has a famous fan in John Barrowman amid a “fix” controversy surrounding her TV appearance.

Musicals star John, 55, hinted on Instagram he was familiar with Loren’s work before she appeared on ITV last week.

Impressed judge Amanda Holden hit her Golden Buzzer for Loren, sending her through to the semis.

But some fans couldn’t get over that Loren has experienced professional success as the original singer for The Greatest Showman track Never Enough.

Furthermore, the 32-year-old also previously appeared on another reality series, The Voice.

Thanking fans earlier this week, Loren told her 140,000 Insta followers: “Britain’s Got Talent was such an incredible experience.

“I just want to seriously thank everyone for all the love and support, it means the world to me. And it is not over yet… we still have the semi-finals coming up!”

In the comments section, John indicated his delight for Loren’s present success.

And, in what some could see as a controversial comment, he told her it was “amazing” she was “getting her time in the spotlight”.

I have always been a fan.

He encouraged her: “I have always been a fan and think it’s amazing you are getting your time in the spotlight. Sing, sing, sing – let that voice soar.”

What is the controversy with Loren Allred?

BGT viewers were divided over whether it is “fair” for a professional singer to be participating in the ITV series.

One fan complained there is “no point” to the series, feeling Loren will be a shoo-in to win.

Someone else claimed show bosses “may as well get Adele to audition” due to Loren’s professional success.

And others weren’t particularly bowled over at having an American take part in TV programme with a reference to Britain in the title.

However, others didn’t see the problem in having someone who can actually sing do so.

“She can sing that every round for me,” one fan praised Loren.

BGT airs on ITV tonight, Saturday April 23, at 8pm.
