BGT fans BLAST Simon Cowell for claiming world-record act “risked his life”

Chair-balancer Jay Rawlings had a mixed reaction

Britain’s Got Talent viewers blasted Simon Cowell for claiming a world record-breaking act on tonight’s show “risked his life”.

Fans ridiculed the star after Jay Rawlings, 25, beat the record for the most number of chairs balanced on the chin.

Jay successfully held the lightweight metal seats, which were carefully assembled beforehand, above his head for 10 seconds to set a new mark of 11 chairs, beating the previous best of nine.

Before his attempt, he told the judges that when he applied for the show, the record stood at just five, so he had been practising with six.

But since then, an American had smashed that number by balancing nine chairs on his chin.

The performer, however, brought the record back to Britain and Ant and Dec presented him on stage with his world record certificate.

It was then that Simon told Jay: “You risked your life and you got a world record.”

Viewers took issue with the showrunner and shared their comments on social media.

One tweeted: ““You risked your life” – come on Simon, he balanced a chair on his chin, deary me…”

Another posted: “Risked his life. Calm down Simon. Calm down.”

Others were far from impressed by the feat, despite the fact Jay is now an official Guinness World record holder.

But many viewers were blown away by the achievement.
