Arthur Labinjo-Hughes: Grandmother Madeleine appears on GMB

Susanna and co-host Martin Lewis interviewed Madeleine on the programme.

The grieving grandmother said: “I’m here on behalf of Arthur and his mother. Arthur was the happiest child, he was very much loved by everyone.

“He was always happy and that’s why I called him sunny delight… I saw him on the 21st October [2019], which was my birthday.”

Madeleine continued: “He’d lost the sparkle in his eyes and his dad came to pick him up and Arthur said to his dad, ‘Is she in the car’ and he said yes and Arthur started to cry.

“He said, ‘Grandma, can I stay with you?’ And he was due to see his mother the following week and he was so excited. Then on the 23rd October, I received a text from his dad saying, ‘You’re not seeing him again’.”

Madeleine revealed she next saw Arthur in intensive care.

‘There was no remorse’

The grieving grandmother went on to recall a time she saw bruises on the little boy in a photograph.

Breaking down in tears, Madeleine added: “The most disturbing thing to me [was] I said ‘There’s new bruises on top of old, which tells me this has been going on. I seen them and imagined the pain Arthur would have been in.”

Susanna also broke down in tears on the show.

They’ll burn in hell

Arthur’s father Thomas Hughes was sentenced to 21 years for manslaughter.

Meanwhile, Emma Tustin will serve a minimum term of 29 years for murder.

Speaking about their sentences, Madeleine said: “Life should mean life. They took away Arthur’s life – there was no remorse, no sympathy shown. They’ll never get to heaven, they’ll burn in hell – if they get there.”
