A Twitter plea from Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly has sent the internet into a tailspin.
The presenting pair took to social media to beg fans to head to the National Television Awards’ website to vote, ahead of tonight’s ceremony.
And it’s thought to have literally crashed the entire website, as Ant and Dec’s almost seven million Twitter followers all rushed to vote at once.
Ant, 42, and Dec, also 42, are up for a whopping four trophies at Tuesday night’s glittery event, including the big one – the best TV Presenter title.
They’ll be taking on the popular presenting likes of Bradley Walsh, as well as This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Scofield.
But the Geordie pair remain firm favourites, having taken the award home for the past 16 years.
On Monday night, the former Byker Grove actors took to Twitter for a last minute boost to their vote, writing: ‘Less than 24 hours go vote for all your favourites at the @OfficialNTAs. Vote closes at noon tomorrow.’
Thrilled fans jumped at the chance to support the twosome, writing: ‘You’ll have my vote a million times over.’
Another tweeted: ‘I ALWAYS vote for anything ANT N DEC!! On my bucket list to meet you two!!’
But The Daily Star reports that the NTA website went down soon after.
Voters were furious when they found they couldn’t vote – with only a matter of hours to go – and an NTA spokesperson was forced to comment, saying: ‘There were some issues on certain operating systems but they were soon resolved.’
It comes after a rough few months for Ant, in particular.
Last year, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and Britain’s Got Talent presenter admitted to the world that he was suffering with an addiction to prescription drugs. He spent time in rehab, with the support of his family. But earlier this month, Ant confirmed the ‘amicable’ split from his wife of 23 years, Lisa Armstrong.
Reports say the former couple are determined to avoid a lengthy, difficult court battle, and Ant is prepared to give Lisa half of his £62 million fortune.
It could reportedly be the biggest divorce settlement involving a UK celebrity to date.
As for the NTA, no one deserves it more than Ant and Dec – we’ll be rooting for you, lads.
