The Wright Stuff

The Wright Stuff is a daytime chat show that has aired on Channel 5 since September 2000.

It is broadcast weekdays from 9.15am to 11.15am and was anchored by Matthew Wright from the start until June 2018.

Jeremy Vine will take over as the new permanent host from September 2018, with guest presenters filling in until then.

Previous stand in hosts have included Anne Diamond, Vanessa Feltz, Kaye Adams and Christopher Biggins.

Richard Bacon, Piers Morgan, Anneka Rice and Coleen Nolan have also filled in for Wright when absent.

When Wright participated in the 2013 series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Richard Madeley stepped in to host for a month.

Originally, James O’Brien and Kate Silverton were regular panellists to join Wright. But after a few years, pundits drawn from entertainment, journalism and politics were rotated.

Among the regular panel members have been Angela Rippon, Lauren Booth, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, Melinda Messenger and Nadine Dorries.

Anton du Beke, Jamelia, John Barnes, Richard Coles, Paris Lees, Quentin Wilson and Kevin O’Sullivan have also featured.

Originally filmed in Norwich, The Wright Stuff was later broadcast live from MTV Studios in north London. It then moved to Princess Production’s studios in west London. It is currently transmitted from a studio at ITN’s central London HQ.

In 2002, the show was at the centre of a media and legal storm after Wright named a celebrity on air as the anonymous rapist mentioned by Ulrika Jonsson in her autobiography.

And in May 2012, it was reported The Wright Stuff was under investigation by Ofcom after viewers were asked what the most offensive word was to describe someone with learning difficulties.

The Wright Stuff has been nominated for the Best Daytime Programme award at both the Royal Television Society and the National Television Awards.
