Everyone is wearing this £38 Next dress…

And you really ought to be, too

| Updated:

Every summer, the high street treats us to a few hero dresses that send shoppers into a retail frenzy.

Just last week, Marks & Spencer’s leopard print midi dress with contrasting coral side stripe began to catch the attention of social media’s style set, then subsequently sold out. Don’t worry if you missed it though – get a sneak peek at Marks & Spencer’s next season collection here and start compiling your wish list.

Now, back to the task at hand: It dresses. So seldom does a frock rise from the fashion ashes that we can genuinely, hand on heart say that it suits everyone; every skin tone, every shape, every style. But that’s exactly what high street stalwart Next has achieved with its chic city dress, which is quietly gaining momentum as summer’s most sought after staple.

Featuring thin straps (which you can still sneak a bra strap underneath – trust us, we tried), a flounced off-the-shoulder neckline and flattering a-line midi skirt, these come together to create the makings of a beautiful silhouette. They’re available in a wide range of sizes, too; 6-22.

What’s more, it comes in not one, not two, nor three, but FOUR covetable colour-ways.

There’s a classic white option with a beautiful broderie (read: everyone’s favourite summer fabric) finish, which you’ll also find in navy. Then, there’s a soft red and white sun-seeker variation and, to round off the quartet, a light blue and white vertical striped offering.

While you’ll naturally want one of each – you’re only human after all – that necessarily wouldn’t be out of the realms of possibility.

The broderie styles will set you back a mere £38 each, while the striped incarnations come in slightly cheaper at £35 a pop. Certainly not eye-watering.

As for the finishing touches, we recommend wearing yours with suede espadrilles, hoop earrings and a slick of red lipstick. You know the saying ‘less is more’? It definitely applies when your dress looks this good from the get-go…
