It’s a decision that could affect every person in the nation – for good or bad – but there’s more riding on Theresa May’s vote of no-coinfidence than even she realises.

In an historic turn of events, tonight will see the Prime Minister face a landmark no-confidence vote.

After criticism over her handling of Brexit, Tory MPs will vote on whether Mrs May should stay as leader of the party.

The vote will take place between 6pm and 8pm this evening (Wednesday 12 December), with the result expected to be announced at 9pm.

And loyal soap fans are now extremely worried the rushed vote will mean Coronation Street and Emmerdale are cancelled due to the clash of schedules.

One concerned viewer tweeted: “Will the vote tonight interfere with Coronation Street and Emmerdale tonight? I just want to live in the real world. And is Mrs May not concerned about Sally?”

Another said: “I swear to God if @Theresa_May’s #NoConfidence vote interrupts #Emmerdale & #Corrie, look-out!

“It won’t be @OfficeGSBrown resigning 15 minutes before #EastEnders all over again.”

While a third warned: “Due to Theresa May NO Confidence , it looks as though now that #Corrie, and #Emmerdale could be cancelled tonight due to every news station BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 wanting to go LIVE for the #TheresaMay #NOConfidence VOTE.”

Fans have good reason to be anxious as the second episode of Coronation Street’s double bill ends at the exact moment the result of the vote is announced.

Planned storylines tonight included the revelation in Emmerdale of whether Daz Spencer would flee the village, after ploughing down Graham Foster in a hit and run.

In Coronation Street, meanwhile, Chesney fakes a mugging to help Sinead, while Dev realises Sinead has been lying to him.

Will fans have their fave TV shows tampered with?

And will Theresa May survive the evening? It’s like a soap plot, only real!
