Lucy Fallon ‘quit Coronation Street for Strictly Come Dancing’

Could Lucy be swapping the cobbles for the dance floor?

| Updated:

Actress Lucy Fallon shocked Coronation Street fans last week when she announced she was the latest star to quit the cobbles.

As the seventh reported star to quit the soap, it looks like Lucy may be swapping Street life for the dance floor in a major career move.

According to a report in The Sun, Lucy is keen to join this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up.

But she’s been told by BBC bosses that if she wants to sign up, she’d have to quit the ITV soap first, as Coronation Street has a strict ban on its stars making money from deals outside of the show.

“When Strictly bosses realised she was keen, they told her she’d have to quit Corrie because of its ban on deals,” a show source told the paper.

“Lucy took the plunge as she knows her acting career has more opportunities ahead than sticking around in Weatherfield.

“Talks have started between her representatives and Strictly bookers. Some male dancers already want to partner her.”

Lucy even watched last year’s show in Blackpool and would be among many former Corrie stars to compete if she does indeed appear in the upcoming series.

Past Coronation Street actors competing on Strictly Come Dancing include Tina O’Brien (who plays her on-screen mum Sarah Platt), Georgia May Foote and Claire King.

Lucy first joined Coronation Street as Bethanny Platt in 2015, and has won several awards for her breakout role.

She is one of multiple cast members to quit the soap in recent weeks. Others include Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor), Faye Brookes (Kate Connor), Tristan Gemmill (Robert Preston) and Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker).

Describing leaving as a “difficult decision” her formal departure statement included:

“After the most incredible four years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.

“It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday.

“I’m so thankful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly.”
