Surely contenders have to include Sally Webster’s Christmas Day bombshell, when she told her husband Kevin she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer – causing him to end his affair with Molly Binns.

Happier moments include Hilda Ogden’s jubilant farewell in the Rovers Return after 23 years on the soap, and the birth of David Platt.

The one-off celebration will air on Friday (December 20) and feature clips of the most beloved Christmas moments in the soap.

Alongside the trip down memory lane will be interviews with some of the soap’s top stars – including Sally Lindsay, who played Shelley Unwin, and Reece Dinsdale, aka Joe McIntyre.

Executive Producer Sue Walton said about the show: “Corrie at Christmas promises to bring joy through iconic archive and cast memories from Christmases past in Weatherfield.

“Peace and goodwill can be short-lived on the cobbles during the festive season, which always brings drama as well as plenty of fun and heart-warming moments – all captured in this documentary which will pack a Christmas punch.”

Appearing on This Morning last month, Sally Lindsay discussed the show, saying: “It’s basically a load of us that have left and have done quite well, we were talking about our memories of the Street and how that set our careers up.”

She continued: “So I did this little 10 minute interview, didn’t think anything of it. Then the next minute I’m going back to the Street. I was like, ‘That’s the first I’ve heard!'”

However, she did say she’d never rule out a return.
