Home and Away’s Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor confirm real-life romance

Fans have been speculating for ages

Their Home and Away characters have been dating since June, and in real-life Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor have FINALLY confirmed they are a couple too.

The stars, who play Ziggy Astoni and Dean Thompson in the Channel 5 soap, haven’t exactly been keeping things very hidden, with regular Instagram posts of them together.

However, they’ve opened up about their love in an interview for the first time with Australian magazine WHO.

The pair confirmed they have in fact been dating for months, but that they first met seven years before working together on the show.

Friendship became something more after they began starring together and Sophie revealed to the magazine they have been dating for “most of this year.”

She went on to say: “We knew each other at school and then we met at uni, but we didn’t spend a lot of time together.

“Then we started working together, and Bob’s your uncle!

They also admitted that whilst they don’t live together they are planning to get a dog – only they “argue over dog breeds.”

On-screen viewers have been desperate for Ziggy and Dean to get together, but the couple spent months being ‘just good friends’.

However an encounter with a terminally ill man caused Dean to realise they needed to seize the day and he kissed Ziggy.

Although things were awkward after their moment together, the couple soon realised they wanted to make a go of things and got together for real.

But things hit the rocks pretty quickly when they struggled to find any time to spend together.

And newcomer Jade is going to set her sights on Dean in the coming weeks meaning more drama for the couple.

Fortunately, things in real-life seem a lot less stressful!

Sophie and Patrick aren’t the only couple for whom romance on-screen spilled into real life.

Sarah Roberts (Willow Harris) and James Stewart (Justin Morgan) recently got married after their characters got together on the soap.

Home and Away is on Monday to Friday at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5
