First look at Kym Marsh’s new role after leaving Coronation Street

From Corrie to Christmas...

Kym Marsh will be leaving Coronation Street any day now, but her next project is just around the corner.

While her storylines as Michelle Connor have been all doom and gloom of late, with her fiancé Robert Preston cheating on her, Kym’s next role is a much lighter affair!

And here’s the first look at her festive character in Elf: A Christmas Spectacular – based on the hit Will Ferrell film.

Kym will play Buddy the Elf’s girlfriend, Jovie, a role previously portrayed by fellow soap star Martine McCutcheon.

Actor Tam Ryan will play the elf, while former EastEnders legend Shaun Williamson stars as Buddy’s dad.

Kym’s eight-year-old daughter Polly – her child with ex-husband Jamie Lomas – will also star in the play, as a naughty child who has a confrontation with Santa.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, she said: “It’s amazing that I get to share the next part of my acting journey with Polly. She loves acting and performing, so for her to land her first role aged eight is great, and we’re all so proud of her.

“It’s lovely to think she wants to follow in my footsteps and I know she’ll do a great job. I think she was born to be in the spotlight – she’s quite the little character.”

In July, ED! told you that Kym will present a new five-part investigative series for the BBC following her exit from Coronation Street.

The 43-year-old star revealed she was “super excited” to announce her involvement in For Love Or Money – a programme about online dating scams.

She will present the daytime, week-long series alongside Ashley John-Baptiste later this year.

She is reported to have told The Mirror: “This series has been a real eye-opener. It was relatable to me as, in the past, I discovered that my identity had been stolen in order for a scammer to catfish someone else.”

She continued: “I was horrified. It’s such an awful crime and its long-lasting effects are emotional and financial.

“I feel really passionately that this series is going to stop people in their tracks and really analyse who they are talking to online.”

Mum-of-four Kym previously made it clear she would not be looking to take part in celebrity reality shows following her exit from Weatherfield after 13 years.
