Ex-Corrie star Reece Dinsdale announces ‘exciting’ Emmerdale news

He said it was the 'best thing ever'

Reece Dinsdale is probably best known for playing Tina’s dad Joe McIntyre in Coronation Street, but the actor recently announced “exciting” Emmerdale news.

We last saw the character of Joe on the cobbles in February 2010, when he was killed off after Reece quit the show.

Known for his bad luck, Joe – who became Gail’s fourth husband – died whilst trying to fake his own death in order to claim insurance money…

Yorkshire-born Reece, 60, went on to star in Waterloo RoadTaggart and Moving On, before returning to theatre and eventually turning his hand to directing.

This week, he revealed the “exciting news” that he’s been on the set of Emmerdale.

He tweeted: “Had a fabulous day working with some of the most generous and talented of people, crew and cast alike… All pulling in one direction. Can’t beat the feeling. More of the same tomorrow. #Emmerdale.”

Fans were quick to react to the news that Reece is now directing episodes of the ITV soap, with one replying: “May I just say I do miss your talent on the big screen! Looks like you are having as much fun behind though.”

Another said: “Looking forward to seeing your storylines.”

Reece also revealed he’s met up with fellow actor Dean Andrews, who plays Will Taylor, saying: “An utter joy to see the legend that is @Deanoandrews this morning, as we were about to start our respective days on #Emmerdale. Next time, we’ll hopefully get to do our thing together.”

While it all clearly feels new and exciting for Reece, he first started directing Emmerdale episodes in September, telling his fans: “My first day of shooting on #Emmerdale tomorrow.

“I’m a little bit nervous… but also very excited! Get to direct my friend, the wonderful @ZoeHenry03, in my very first scene. Just hoping she’s still my mate at the end of the day!”

In a happy coincidence, Reece and Zoe Henry – aka Rhona Goskirk – starred alongside each other in Conviction.

Directors at Emmerdale usually work on a freelance rotation basis, so watch out for more from Reece over the coming months.
