We knew Lisa Dingle was not long for this earth. But we were not ready to say goodbye to her so soon.

Her friends, family – and fans – have just been dealt a shocking blow as the Emmerdale favourite passed away in a beautifully understated scene.

Given that the show dropped both Joanie Wright and Hannah Barton’s death on viewers without any prior warning, we shouldn’t have been so surprised.

But it still hit like a sucker punch to the guts.

The Ent Daily soap team has been dreading the episode where Lisa would die ever since the storyline was revealed in March.

We watched dewy-eyed as Charity traveled to Scotland to meet with Lisa in secret, who dropped the devastating bombshell she had been diagnosed with an incurable heart condition.

Then earlier this month, she came home with husband Zak to tell her family the tragic news and to live out her final days.

Top of her bucket list of things to do before she went was to marry Zak again, and tonight she got her wish.

But tears of joy for the assembled Dingles turned to sadness as Lisa left her reception at the Woolpack to go home and change.

She sat on her sofa for a rest with just Monty the dog for company. Zak came home to collect her and, at first, thought she was having a nap on the sofa.

When he realised the awful truth, that she had died, he broke down, sobbing: “Nooo, this is too soon, Lisa.”

Viewers sharing their feelings on Twitter were also emotional wrecks…

Some had guessed Lisa’s death would come tonight, though.

Emmerdale continues tomorrow night at 7pm.
