Emmerdale’s Charley Webb shows off son’s new haircut after criticism from trolls

She was forced to defend her children recently

Charley Webb has had her son Bowie’s hair cut short, just weeks after the Emmerdale star was forced to defend her sons after trolls criticised their long manes.

The actress, 31, is currently enjoying maternity leave after welcoming her third child with co-star husband Matthew Wolfenden.

But she recently had her domestic bliss ruined when she felt forced to defend herself against internet critics who told her she needs to cut her sons’ hair.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, she lashed out: “I get asked so many times on here why my kids have got long hair. ‘Why don’t you cut it?’ Or, ‘they look like girls’. The answer is really simple, because we like it and more importantly they like it.

“I absolutely don’t feel like I need to explain it to anyone who has an opinion but I just think life would be so much easier if we all just focused on our own lives. Don’t let my kids’ hair worry you.”

She continued: “I think people think they have a right to have an opinion because of social media. Maybe you do. But try keeping it to yourself, it’s not important to us what you think of how our kids look. Or how we look. Or their names or whatever it is you might want to comment on.

“I was always taught, if you’ve got nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Try practicing it peeps. There’s enough awful stuff in the world without being mean to each other.

“They’ve got another t-shirt that says, I’m a boy, I’ve just got better hair than you. True dat.”

This week, however, she has shared a photo of Bowie with a brand new style, and we can’t imagine there’ll be any complaints from fans.

In the new snap, posted on Tuesday (October 15), Bowie can be seen sporting a much shorter style.

Alongside the photo, Charley wrote: “Hair cut = cute face visible. Bowie three years and 10 months.”

Followers were quick to praise the tot, with one replying: “Awwww cutey.”

Another said: “He looks just like his dad.”

Charley, who plays Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap, was quick to shoot down suggestions she had had his hair cut because of the trolling, however.

She said: “I can’t believe how many people have been asking me if I cut Bowie’s hair because of all the negative comments on Instagram or online.

“The answer to that is no. I have not cut Bowie’s hair because of the negative comments. If I was cutting my child’s hair because of negative comments, that would be very worrying.

“He saw a picture of a hairstyle he liked with lots of different colours in it, and he wanted that. Obviously his hair isn’t a different colour, but he still likes it.”

Charley also shared another super adorable snap of both her and Bowie having their hair washed in their local Hob Salon.

She captioned the photo: “Like mother, like son.”

She and Matthew welcomed youngest son Ace Gene into the world in July.

In an interview with OK! magazine a few weeks later, the couple opened up about the newborn’s traumatic birth.

“The umbilical cord was wrapped around Ace’s neck when he was born,” Charley explained.

“It came off and he was passed to me but I could tell something was wrong.

“Ace wasn’t breathing at first, so the midwife had to press the panic button.”

Matthew added: “By the time someone had come through the door from the panic button being pressed, Ace was breathing again, so it couldn’t have been long. Although it felt like a lifetime.”

The soap couple have three children – Buster, nine, Bowie, three, and three month old Ace.
