Emmerdale 'takes home Best Shock Twist at the Inside Soap Awards'

It's one of the night's big prizes

It's been revealed that Emmerdale are set to take home one of the big awards at tonight's Inside Soap Awards.

The bash, held in London on Monday October 7, will see the Dales scoop the prize for Best Shock Twist, according to The Daily Star.

They've won the award for its innovative series of flashback episodes surrounding the Big Night Out.

One of the key storylines of the epsiodes saw groomer Maya Stepney finally exposed for sleeping with Jacob Gallagher, and confronted by Leyla, Tracy and Priya in the woods.

Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy is quoted as saying: "I am honestly so thrilled that the Big Night Out has won this award.

"We had such an amazing time filming these episodes."

She added: "I'd like to thank the readers of Inside Soap for voting for us, it really means the world."

And Fiona Wade, who plays Priya, said: "Thank you so much to all our viewers and everyone who voted. I honestly had the best time filming these episodes."

Maya had been grooming Jacob for months and when Priya spotted them kissing outside the nightclub some of the villagers were at, she told Leyla and Tracy.

The girls coaxed Maya into Priya's car before driving her to the woods for a showdown.

Although Leyla believed she had killed Maya, it turned out the teacher was hiding in a hotel somewhere, plotting to run away with Jacob.

Because they feared facing an attempted murder charge, the girls couldn't go to the police, and when Maya was eventually caught and brought to justice, it was on the lesser charge of sexually explicit texts with a minor.

She was sentenced to a year in prison and is set to be out by Christmas.

Other stories covered in the Big Night Out episodes saw Victoria Sugden's life changed forever when she was raped by Lee Posner.

She has since discovered she's pregnant with Lee's baby, and her brother Robert is about to go on the run after assaulting Lee.

Ellis Chapman was also stabbed during the big week.

The soap beat off competition from Hollyoaks' Breda being revealed as a serial killer, Corrie's Gary Windass being named as the factory roof saboteur, and EastEnders' Linda double-crossing Stuart.

Danny Dyer, who plays Mick Carter in EastEnders, leads the way with the nominations for tonight's ceremony, having been shortlisted for a hat-trick of gongs.
