Paddy Kirk and Chas Dingle face their most terrifying fear in next week’s Emmerdale as they head to the hospital for their 20-week baby scan.
Emmerdale fans will know that the last time Chas had a 20-week scan at the hospital she was told the heartbreaking news that the unborn daughter that she shared with Paddy had bilateral renal genesis, a fatal condition where the kidneys don’t develop properly.
From that moment on, Chas and Paddy’s worlds were turned upside down, and when the time finally came for Chas to give birth with Paddy by her side, their daughter, Grace, sadly died just hours after she was born.

But thankfully for Paddy and Chas, this time around things seem to be going well and the couple’s first scan revealed Chas is carrying a perfectly healthy baby.
However, what happened with Grace is always at the forefront of the pair’s minds and they can’t help but be nervous as the date for their 20-week scan draws closer.
Next week Paddy is concerned about Chas, having noted how on edge she is about going for their routine hospital appointment.
So Paddy being Paddy decides to help Chas by cancelling the appointment, thinking that’s what she wants.
But despite thinking that he was doing the right thing, the vet soon finds himself in the doghouse when Chas discovers what he has done.
Surpringly Cain is the one who offers Chas some words of wisdom and tells her to be honest about her feelings with Paddy, and she takes his advice on board.
As the pair prepare to go to their rearranged scan, it is clear they’re both understandably terrified about what the appointment might unearth.
But thankfully they don’t have to worry, because after waiting for what feels like a lifetime, the pair are told their baby is perfectly healthy.
The couple are ecstatic and head home to celebrate their good news with the rest of the Dingles… but there is just one thing they are keeping a secret from their family, and that’s the baby’s gender.
However, there is one person they are going to confide in, and that’s Grace.

The pair share a touching moment at their baby daughter’s grave when they tell her that she can keep their secret for them.
While Grace might know what gender Chas and Paddy’s baby is, it looks like the Dingles – and soap fans – are going to have to wait a little while to find out.
Let’s just hope the next 20 weeks of Chas’s pregnancy go as well as the first have.
