Emmerdale's Anthony Quinlan lands new role after quitting soap - and he's already filming

The actor is leaving the soap after six years

Anthony Quinlan has already landed a new role after quitting Emmerdale.

The Pete Barton actor left fans in shock earlier this week when it was confirmed he had quit the soap after six years.

And now it has been revealed he has already begun filming his next role.

He will star in short film Asphixiate alongside Michaela Longden who wrote and co-produced the film.

Confirming his new role, Anthony wrote on Instagram: "Scene rehearsal of @asphyxiateshortfilm starring myself and the incredibly talented @kaylaginge who also wrote and co-produced this fine piece of film.

The 34-year-old actor has decided it is time to goodbye to the Dales after playing Pete Barton for six years on the ITV soap as he apparently wants to pursue other roles and potentially a reality show.

A source told The Sun's Bizarre TV column: "Anthony has loved his time on Emmerdale but he is really keen to try and make a name for himself away from just soaps, and is looking at auditions.

"He says he would be up for doing a reality show too, like the jungle or Strictly, but with a full-on filming schedule for Emmerdale that's quite tricky."

Anthony joined Emmerdale in 2013 as John and Moira Barton's nephew Pete.

He first appeared with his dad James and younger brother Finn.

The three of them soon moved to the village where Pete and Finn's brother Ross was living.

Anthony is the second actor to quit the village in as many weeks with Samantha Giles also announcing her exit.

Taking to Twitter, she revealed: "After 7 fabulous years I am shortly to be hanging up Bernice's aprons and leaving the dales to pursue other creative projects.

"I will miss all the friends I've made on the show, but I'm very excited to be moving on to pastures new."
