Emmerdale to air heartbreaking flash forward scenes after Chas Dingle gives birth

The day the couple have been dreading has arrived

Emmerdale is set to air heart-wrenching scenes following the arrival of Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk’s baby which will show what their daughter’s life would have been like had she survived.

The new parents’ joy to meet their new daughter, who they name Grace, is set to be short-lived when they’re forced to say an untimely farewell to their little girl in scenes that are bound to be upsetting.

But as Paddy starts to imagine what life would be like with their daughter had things been different, viewers will get a glimpse of what he thinking, creating a dream-like flash forward which is set to add a new dimension to the episode.

Actress Lucy Pargeter, who plays heartbroken Chas, recently told Digital Spy: “The episode is like a fantasy flash forward. So it is Grace when she has just been born, then at 1, at 4, and then 12.

“It’s the kind off things they would have done with her if she’d have still been around – it’s in their heads in the delivery room after she has just been born.

“They’re thinking about all of the things they won’t get to do with her. They kind of go there with her in their minds.

“It was traumatic, but beautiful filming it. When you’re pregnant you do think about all of the things you’re going to do with your child, so it’s a nice in a way to have been able to see some of that – and the kids were absolutely gorgeous!”

Lucy also admitted that while the hospital scenes are going to be tough to watch, these flash forward scenes will show a different side to Chas and Paddy’s grief…

“The episode needs the lightness. We have had a massive build-up of how awful it is going to be, so to have that lightness is a relief. It’s bittersweet to the audience and the characters.”

Baby Grace will then pass away in Chas’s arms after the flash forward scenes have been shown. The pair are obviously left distraught and facing a life without their much-longed for daughter beside them.

This episode will air on Monday 1st October at 7pm on ITV.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
