EastEnders viewers know that Max Branning married Rainie Cross for one reason and one reason only – to get custody of his granddaughter Abi.

Their relationship is a sham to convince welfare officers that Max would make a good guardian for the baby – rather than Abi’s maternal great-grandmother Cora.

But it was soon apparent that Rainie hadn’t got the memo.

In a surprising twist of events, the BBC soap have hinted that Rainie had fallen for the dodgy car salesman.

The dramatic summer preview, released last month, showed Rainie plant a smacker on Max’s lips which got everyone talking about her feelings for Max.
