EastEnders' Nitin Ganatra teases return for Masood Ahmed

Nitin has played Masood on and off since 2007.

Actor Nitin Ganatra, who plays Masood Ahmed in EastEnders, has teased a return for his alter ego.

Nitin, who joined the BBC soap back in 2007, appeared on Lorraine today (October 24 2019).

Speaking to Christine Lampard, he revealed what Masood is up to at the moment.

He said: "He's out in the wilderness somewhere I think. Sat around a campfire with a didgeridoo."

When asked whether Masood would ever return to Albert Square, he said: "Masood is lovely and I love him. I still think there's so much to find in him.

"I have a lot of respect for EastEnders and the way they really work hard at producing stories that keep people interested.

"So who knows? Maybe one day I'll go back if they want me."

In the soap, Masood left Walford at the beginning of 2019 to emigrate to Australia, leaving behind his girlfriend Kathy Beale.

In real life, Nitin is starring in a new play on the West End called God's Dice alongside comedian Alan Davies.

The play, written by David Baddiel, is centred around a love triangle between three characters.

Maybe one day I'll go back if they want me.

Meanwhile the play has a backdrop of science versus religion, about quantum physics, God and the meaning of life.

Speaking about his character, Nitin said: "Yeah I didn't have to do any of the science, I just play the chirpy best mate and who's a lecturer, who just can't keep his hands off students.

"I don't know why. I didn't have to do any research or anything so I'm just a womaniser in that."
