EastEnders fans in hysterics over Carmel’s hilarious new nickname

A bit of humour after months of turmoil...

She’s had a very rough ride this year, but Carmel Kazemi is rising like a phoenix from the ashes – and she’s been christened a fitting new name by EastEnders scriptwriters.

And fans are FULLY behind the affectionate new moniker.

During Tuesday night’s episode (11 September) of the BBC soap, Carmel was confronted by the mother of the gang member who murdered her son Shakil.

Bruno’s mum Sophie had arrived on Carmel’s doorstep, hoping to talk with her – but understandably Carmel turned her away.

As Sophie walked away, however, Carmel overheard Keegan shooting at Sophie in the street, telling her: “Jog on, scum!”

Upset by his harsh words, Carmel hurried Keegan back to her home, where the pair had a heated dispute.

During the row, Keegan described Carmel as “some sort of Ginger Batman” because of her recent anti-knife crime activism.

And fans LOVED Carmel’s new heroic name…

One fan shared on Twitter: “Great performances as always @bonnie_langford but ‘ginger batman’ is now how you’ll be referred to in my house going forward.”

Another added: “@_Zack_Morris have to say he is great in #EastEnders #gingerbatman.”

One viewer described it as the “best line ever”, while many others simply responded with the laughing emoji.

Luckily, after both saying words they didn’t mean, Carmel and Keegan made up.

Carmel then gave Keegan the shoes she’d intended to give to Shakil for his birthday before he was tragically stabbed in May.

His funeral broke with tradition by incorporating real footage from those who have also lost a loved one to knife crime.

Bonnie Langford will be leaving the soap later this year.
