EastEnders fans excited as ‘original’ Ben makes ‘an appearance’

Charlie was the third actor to play Ben

Fans of  EastEnders were excited after the ‘original’ Ben Mitchell actor made a sort-of appearance last night.

In Tuesday’s episode (August 20 2019), Phil was looking at an old photograph of his son Ben.

However, the picture was not of the current actor Max Bowden in his younger years…

It’s no secret that the character of Ben has had numerous recasts and Max is the sixth actor to play him.

This isn’t the first time the soap has done this.

Last year, the original Lauren Branning actress, Madeline Duggan, made an appearance in a photograph eight years after she left the soap and Jacqueline Jossa took over the role.

Although viewers were calling Charlie the original Ben, he was actually the third actor to play him.

Ben was played by Matthew Silver from 1996 till 1998 before Morgan Whittle took over the role from 1999 till 2000.

Charlie Jones played Ben after Morgan. Joshua Pascoe took over the role from Charlie and played Ben from 2010 till 2012.

Ben was recast again and played by Harry Reid from 2014 till 2018.

Earlier this year, Max Bowden was announced as the sixth recast for Ben Mitchell.

During Charlie’s time playing Ben, he was abused by his dad’s girlfriend Stella, burnt his sister Louise’s arm, and hit bully Jordan Johnson over the head with a spanner, leading to him being sent to a juvenile detention centre.

He also had a memorable obsession with the first album of Lady Gaga.

EastEnders is on Mondays and Fridays at 8pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
