EastEnders’ Tamzin Outhwaite hints there’s heartbreak ahead for Mel Owen

Mel has been helping her son Hunter, who escaped from prison!

Actress Tamzin Outhwaite has hinted there’s heartbreak in store for her EastEnders character Mel Owen – and the gruelling scenes have left her in need of some light relief.

Tamzin, who originally joined the BBC soap in 1998, posted a tweet to her official Twitter account.

Tamzin wrote: “I love my job, but jeeez… it sure is time to do some more comedy!”

With Mel’s heavy scenes, it would probably be nice for Tamzin to do something more lighthearted when she leaves the soap later this year.

Currently, Mel’s son Hunter recently escaped from prison after leading an ambush on the prison guards.

Ray was married to two other women and tried to kill Mel before the wedding.

She went through with the nuptials so he could be arrested for bigamy.

He tried to kill her again after the wedding and Hunter ended up shooting him in a big showdown.

Hunter arrived back on the square last week and Mel took him to an empty apartment to fix up his injured leg.

The teen made it clear he was out for revenge on Jack Branning for handing him into the police.

Next week after putting the finishing touches to her escape plan, Mel is desperate to get Hunter out of Walford so they can start a new life abroad.

But she needs to wait for the coast to be clear before she can smuggle him out.

She orders her son into the boot of a car so they can leave Walford undetected, but just as they are about to leave Albert Square forever, Lisa’s unexpected arrival ruins her plan.

Mel is stunned to see her best friend back in Walford and the pair head indoors to catch up.

Lisa wants help getting Louise and Keanu out of the country and, with Mel also going abroad, she suggests they all leave together.

But when she gets back to the car, she’s sickened to find Hunter is missing and so is her gun.

Will Hunter get his revenge on Jack?

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
