Mel is livid as her son is taken away...

Most of us spend New Year hibernating in our new Christmas pyjamas, sighing about being skint and being too full of leftovers to get off the sofa. And the telly is just too good to go out, isn’t it?

But not so in the Owen household, who have more drama this January than most people have all year.

Mel and teenage son Hunter have a horrible start to 2019 – and it’s all down to Jack Branning.

But is it sour grapes for Mel’s ex, or something more sinister connected to bigamist Ray?

New spoilers have implied that Hunter is set up and arrested by Jack’s police pals.

As if having a dodgy, secretive fiancé wasn’t enough for Mel, she’s left furious and helpless when Hunter is locked up after a tense showdown with Jack.

The Sun reports that Hunter is chased, cornered and eventually caught by police in a derelict part of London.

Mel screams and throws her arms and legs around the police officers until she’s pulled back by the cops who are also trying to restrain her son.

As Jack appears to be the mastermind behind the arrest, Mel struggles to get away from the man restraining her and runs towards him shouting abuse.

Once Hunter is put into the back of an unmarked car, Jack gets in and appears to be attempting to talk to him – until the angry teen launches himself at him and throttles Jack from behind.

Not a good way to behave in front of policemen!

So what’s it all about?

While EastEnders are keeping tightlipped about the nature of Hunter’s crimes, it’s only a matter of time before we discover what’s behind it all.

Is Hunter facing a prison sentence? And, if so, could it be to do with Ray’s betrayal?

On New Year’s Day, Mel is planning to walk down the aisle in what viewers know is a sham wedding to expose Ray and his other wives.

Does Hunter lash out at his ex-stepdad? Could Ray even be dead?
