EastEnders fans left THRILLED by surprise comeback in last night’s episode

We thought (hoped!) we'd seen the last of this...

It’s quickly becoming the week of surprise soap comebacks.

Not only has Emmerdale announced the return of legendary Kim Tate to the Dales, but EastEnders also surprised fans with an iconic comeback of their own last night with, um, Sonia’s trumpet!

The infamous instrument made an all too brief return to the Square yesterday evening after Robbie was seen dusting off boxes from the attic at Dot’s house.

Apparently looking for an old comic, Robbie happened to stumble across Sonia’s beloved trumpet and decided to start playing it.

Pass the ear plugs!

We’re not sure who is more tone deaf, Robbie last night, or a teenage Sonia all those years ago.

But, while Sonia’s daughter, Bex, was left baffled by the mental image of her mum playing the trumpet, fans were thrilled by the return of the famous item…

While we think the fan who tweeted about the trumpet being the ‘greatest comeback in showbiz history’ might have been joking, who are we to argue?

That instrument has gone down in EastEnders history… imprinted on viewers minds across the nation for ever more. Ahem.

While the rest of EastEnders is all doom and gloom as Mick faces a long stretch at Her Majesty’s pleasure, thanks to his frenemy Stuart Highway, it was nice to see some light relief last night, even if it was in the form of Sonia’s trumpet.

Let’s just hope she doesn’t decide to take up playing it again.

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
