On Thursday (May 2), viewers watched heart-wrenching scenes between mother and son as she prepared to live out her final days away from the hospital.

Enjoying precious time together in the countryside, touching scenes included Sean shaving his mum’s hair off after clumps of it had begun to fall out.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Jean injured her leg climbing over a fence.

Due to her recent chemo treatment which thinned her blood, her cut leg could have far more serious implications than if she were healthy.

When Sean realised how weak his mum was, he decided it was time to get a mammoth secret off his chest…

Believing Jean was on her deathbed, he told her he had killed his own dad when he was a teenager.

He told her: “Mum, I know this isn’t the best time. I killed him. I killed Dad.”

Although Jean believed her late husband Brian had died from a brain haemorrhage, Sean put her right.

He explained: “Because I hit him, mum. I punched him and then he died. Because of me. It was me.”

As Sean confessed his sins, mum Jean drifted out of consciousness.

Her final words to her son were, “I love you”, before she appeared to fade away.

With Sean frantically trying to call an ambulance, but unable to get a signal, fans feared the worst for Jean.

One devastated fan simply tweeted: “Jean can’t die. #EastEnders.”

Another cried: “Please don’t let Jean die, she’s a national treasure.”

A third typed: “Omg Jean is dead in EastEnders.”

“Jean deserves a better send off than that,” wrote one upset fan. “That was [bleep] #EastEnders.”
