EastEnders fans baffled over why Danny Dyer wins awards instead of Steve McFadden

Battle of the alpha males?

EastEnders star Danny Dyer walked away with one of the most coveted prizes at the recent TV Choice awards – but some viewers seem baffled by the decision.

Instead of letting Danny have his moment of glory, there are some soap fans who believe Steve McFadden deserves the honour instead.

Writing on Digital Spy Forums, one armchair critic said: “I’ve been in and out of EastEnders for years now, but whenever I get to watch Mick is never out of those episodes.

“However, every time I read about soap awards, he’s also never out of the Best Actor category and usually he’s the only one nominated for EastEnders.”

The user continued: “And worst, he wins more often than not! It baffles me because, in my opinion, he’s always in the same angst mode. It’s the same facial and acting reaction. I don’t think he’s that good an actor frankly.”

Another agreed, saying: “It’s a travesty how he keeps getting nominated for awards when there are the likes of Steve McFadden in the show, but it seems like more of a popularity contest anyway.”

A third added: “Agreed. I don’t understand why Steve (who is easily the best actor in EE) never gets any awards.”

However, one had a compelling theory, typing: “I think Steve doesn’t like the attention and only receives them when he absolutely has too.

“They don’t nominate him because, if they did and he wins, it could be a home goal when he doesn’t show up to receive them.”

Responding to the news that Danny had won Best Soap Actor at the TV Choice awards on Monday (September 10) one fan wrote on Twitter: “Sorry, there are better actors in EastEnders, never mind other soaps, than Danny Dyer!”

Another said: “When will Steve McFadden get his? Man’s superb. Well done Dan.”

The winners of this year’s award ceremony were sadly overshadowed by the now infamous altercation between Emmerdale star Asan N’Jie and Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas.

Asan, who played Ellis on the ITV soap, has now been sacked after threatening to kill fellow soap star Jamie.
