Coronation Street denies plans to kill off one of its departing characters

The soap insist the door will be left open...

ITV’s Coronation Street has been forced to deny reports that future scenes will see Kate Connor killed in ‘brutal’ circumstances.

Kate has been grieving for her dead fiancée Rana Habeeb, ever since the tragic factory roof collapse which claimed her life.

And The Sun have claimed that it won’t be long before Kate joins her in the afterlife!

Today’s newspaper (May 16) suggests that the ITV soap has chosen to kill her off so the actress could never return.

So-called insider quotes say: “Faye’s been told by producers she is going to be killed off rather than just written out.

“It’s a message to other cast members that they can be got rid of.”

However, a spokesperson for Corrie told us the opposite is in fact true.

They told us: “We don’t ever discuss future storylines, but Kate Connor will not be killed off and the door will be open for her to return.”

Faye announced her decision to leave the ITV soap last month, after nearly four years in the role.

Posting a message on Twitter, she wrote: “Thanks to everyone for your amazing support but, after four fabulous years in Weatherfield, it’s time for me to explore new opportunities.”

She continued: “I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while. And so, with a song in my heart, I’m off to pastures new.”

Faye, who is engaged to singer Gareth Gates, has been at the centre of some of the most dramatic storylines in the soap of recent years.

Her relationship with Rana, especially, but also the tragic suicide of Kate’s brother Aidan.

The nature of her exit has not yet been revealed.

This year, Tristan Gemmill, Kym Marsh and Lucy Fallon have all announced their intention to leave the ITV soap.

New characters joining the Street include the four-strong Bailey family and Gemma Winter’s mum Bernie.
