Evelyn Plummer has arrived on Coronation Street with her floral aprons, acid-tongue and sharp observations - and fans already LOVE her.
In fact, some have been quick to compare her to soap legend Blanche Hunt... Praise indeed.
Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) made her first appearance last night (Wednesday 12 September) when Tyrone Dobbs knocked on her door looking for his parents.
But he got a lot more than he bargained for when they found Evelyn, his surly and rude grandmother who was unwilling to accept that Tyrone had any relation to her.
She also delivered the sad news that Tyrone's mother had died in South Africa.
We needed a newer Blanche and Evelyn could very well fit that bill with her bitter vitriol.
As the news about his biological mum sunk in, Tyrone told his grandma he was relieved to finally know the truth about his past.
He then warned Evelyn that she needed to face up to the fact that she was his nan whether "she liked it or not".
Fans found the new character hilarious, and likened her to legendary character Blanche (played by actress Maggie Jones, who died in 2009).
Blanche was the mother of Deirdre Barlow and ruled Weatherfield with her acid tongue, although she was much loved by the viewers.
One fan commented on the similarities, saying: "Evelyn is already so classic! Reminds me of Blanche."
A second added: "We needed a newer Blanche and Evelyn could very well fit that bill with her bitter vitriol."
A third tweeted: "On the positive side, Maureen Lipman is rather good as Evelyn/Blanche 2.0."
It seems you can't beat a soap battle-axe, and Evelyn is set to be a great one! One fan even described her as "just what Corrie needs".
And it's not the last we'll see of Evelyn, as she will soon move into Tyrone's house when she falls on hard times.
Actress Maureen has also revealed that her character hounds Fiz out of Weatherfield later this year...
