Simon Gregson has reached out to anxiety suffers, telling them they “are not alone”.

The Coronation Street star, 44, told his 244,100 Twitter followers that he has had treatment for his own anxiety battle and admitted it’s “awful to live with”.

The admission came after watching Nadiya Hussain’s Anxiety And Me, in which the MasterChef winner and cookery star discussed her own crippling battle with the unpleasant condition.

After watching the BBC documentary, Simon felt compelled to share his own experience of anxiety and was met with a wave of similar stories from his fans.

He wrote: “Anxiety and Me, BBC1. Apologies ITV. This is real and awful to live with.

“Please watch and understand it’s a hidden, awful emotion that affects far more than you’d think. BUT treatable and manageable with the right help.”

When dozens of people responded with their own stories, he answered: “Tablets work different for different people. Mine worked with therapy. However you need to find the right one for you. I can give a number and he’s amazing but I can’t advertise as it’s essentially a business.”

When one worried mum told him her teenage daughter also suffered with the problem, kind-hearted Simon replied: “Life is so complicated now. Too many pressures on our babies. Take a month, go back to nature, love and patience. One life. Enjoy, embrace and love each other.”

It’s not the first time Simon has opened up about mental health, having previously spoken about his battle with depression.

But in 2016, he admitted he was happier and healthier than ever.

He said: “I had to pinch myself the other day, a beautiful wife and three beautiful kids who are hilarious. Then you have everything else on top, I was like ‘wow’, life’s alright.

“I’m more healthy in my 40s than I’ve ever been in my life, there’s many reasons for that which we won’t go into.”

The actor first appeared in the ITV soap in 1989 and, it’s fair to say, has grown to become one of the most popular characters ever in Weatherfield.
