Chris Gascoyne wants Peter Barlow killed off in a brilliant Coronation Street exit

Actor Chris Gascoyne has revealed a grim plotline for his character...

Coronation Street’s Chris Gascoyne has insisted that his character Peter Barlow should be killed off in what he describes as a “brilliant” storyline.

But we’re pretty sure his Coronation Street fans won’t agree with him.

Peter has battled alcoholism and barely come out alive – and now Chris has revealed he thinks his character should succumb to his booze addiction.

Instead of a bog-standard exit by cab like many Weatherfield residents before him, Chris does NOT want the door left open for him – instead he believes Ken Barlow’s son should be killed off.

The 50-year-old actor, who has played Peter since 2000, says he wants his alcoholic character to drink himself to death, believing it would be a “brilliant” storyline to play out.

He told What’s On TV: “If they said to me next year: ‘We’re going to write Peter out’ or I say ‘I’ve had enough’ then I think that’s the story that we’d have to do, where he basically drinks himself to death.

“I don’t think it would be a very nice storyline, but I think it would be brilliant, and I don’t think it has been done before.”

He continued: “Over two years, something tragic happens, really tragic. He’s already fallen off the wagon twice, where he’s nearly died, and they always say there’s only three.

“I don’t think he’s got another one in him to recover from it.”

The actor went on to say that he isn’t planning to leave just yet, though, adding: “I’m not wanting to leave at all. I love it at the moment. I’ve had a brilliant two and half years back.

“I’m not saying that I’m chucking it in. It could be five or 10 years’ time, but that’s how I would like to play that story out. If they say ‘We’ll do it over two years and then you’ll be brown bread’ then right, okay. Otherwise do you stay here for ever? What do you do?'”

Peter made a permanent return to the show in 2016 and viewers have been willing him to reunite with factory boss and on/off flame Carla Connor.

Show producers have teased another will they/won’t they? scenario this Christmas, as the pair grow closer again in the ITV soap’s New Year’s Eve episode.

Fans will see the old chemistry between Peter and Carla return, but will they ever reunite for good?

Chris has teased the pair “get very close”.

He added: “Is Carla his one? I think it looks like that. They’ve had an on-off relationship for some 12 years now. I think that’s what the audience wanted.”
