Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt star Lucy Fallon eyes soap exit

Actress admires how ex Corrie star has transitioned from soap to other TV dramas

| Updated:

Lucy Fallon has admitted she hopes for acting success away from Coronation Street.

The 22-year-old has revealed she idolises how ex Corrie favourite Suranne Jones has carved out an acting career beyond the cobbles, despite being such a recognisable face from her three and a half year stint in Weatherfield.

And the Bethany Platt star has also hinted she could move on and turn to other roles after spending a similar amount of time under contract to the ITV soap.

Lucy, whose deal with Corrie lasts until early next year, told the Daily Star she admired how former Karen McDonald star Suranne transitioned from rowing with soap husband Steve to meaty roles in the likes of Doctor Foster and Vanity Fair.

“I look up to Suranne Jones just because she was in Corrie and now she’s doing amazing dramas. I think she’s so good,” said Lucy.

She continued: “I feel like outside of all the stuff she does you see her as a well respected woman.

“You see her as an actress, not just a celebrity.”

Lucy, whose dream role would be as the lead in Evita, emphasised she would be keen to perform in musicals – but downplayed speculation on a Corrie exit without confirming she hoped to stay beyond her current deal.

“I’d also like to play the lead girl from Miss Saigon, but I’m not Vietnamese so maybe not. Maybe in another life,” she continued.

Asked if she planned to quit the soap in the near future, Lucy replied: “I’m really happy where I am at the moment.

“I’ll be there definitely until February next year and then it’ll have been four years.’”

Earlier this year Lucy won British Soap Awards for Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance in recognition of her gripping performances as her character became a victim of grooming.
