Shayne Ward shows off his dramatic new look at the British Soap Awards

The actor is gearing up for a new film role

Ex-Coronation Street star Shayne Ward showed off his transformation as he hit the red carpet at the British Soap Awards last night.

Since quitting his role as Aidan Connor last year, the 34-year-old actor has developed a much buffer appearance, a brand new beard and also a longer hairstyle.

Shayne previously said his new appearance is down to the fact he’s gearing up for a much different  acting role after leaving the soap.

The actor will be starring in new action film, Stairs, as Will Stanton.

According to IMDB, the film is about a special ops squad who are sent to infiltrate a civil war to retrieve intelligence.

Speaking about his transformation, Shayne told the MEN: “The change in my body has been crazy. I know I speak for myself, and a lot of guys I know as well, we always suffer with putting a lot of weight on around our midsection, our gut and hip.

“That’s the area we always feel most conscious about.”

He went on: “Since the training, that’s been the place that has changed the most. Love handles – I think that’s what we all call them. They’ve completely gone down.”

Meanwhile, at last night’s bash the actor welled up as he accepted a Soap Award for factory owner Aidan’s suicide storyline on the soap.

In tears on the podium, he told the audience: “Us guys just don’t talk enough… we need to start talking.

“We need to use this platform to try and tackle this taboo.”

The former X Factor star continued, “Thanks so much for this – it was a great episode to do.

“And thank you to the sensitive, brilliant cast and crew who worked to make this happen.”

When he mentioned he misses his soap star family, many of them could be seen sobbing in the audience.
