Corrie fans left reeling at news of Aidan Connor’s suicide

The tragic news has hit fans hard

Coronation Street fans have been left shattered by the news that Aidan Connor will take his life next week after months of secretly suffering in silence.

As the news broke yesterday, soap fans took to social media to share their upset at the revelation one of the cobbles’ most popular characters is set to leave in such tragic circumstances.

But despite the fact some Twitter users are jumping on the bandwagon that the northern soap continues to run storylines that are too dark for pre-watershed viewing, the majority of fans are thrilled that such a taboo subject is being tackled.

It has also been revealed that Aidan taking his own life will tie in with another of Corrie’s huge storylines currently running – David Platt’s ongoing ordeal following his sexual assault at the hands of Josh Tucker.

The news that Aidan has taken his own life will apparently give David the strength to tell Shona about what happened on that fateful night with Josh.

Shayne Ward, who plays tragic Aidan, appeared on This Morning earlier today, telling presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that he was told late last year that his character would be part of this hugely sensitive storyline…

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Aidan’s last scenes will air on Monday 7th May at 7.30 and 8.30pm.
