There have been rumours circulating the soap gossip mill that Coronation Street’s Emma Brooker is related to former character Fiona Middleton who was played by actress Angela Griffin.
Corrie viewers recently took to social media to voice their theories about Emma and Fiona, with fans speculating that the characters could even be mother and daughter.
But actress Alexandra Mardell, who plays lovely Emma, has finally spoken out, putting the rumours to bed.

The actress told The Sun: “I’ve heard the Fiona and Steve’s daughter theory, but that’s definitely not true.”
Fans of the show are going to be disappointed their predictions weren’t right. After all, the actresses definitely have a striking resemblance.
Fiona famously dated Steve McDonald before leaving the Street in 1999, after being jilted at the altar by fiance Alan McKenna because he found out she had a fling with Jim McDonald.
And with Jim coming back to the cobbles, any chance that either him or Steve being Emma’s secret dad would have been a brilliant storyline just waiting to happen.
But while trainee hairdresser Emma might not be related to former salon owner Fiona, the actresses do have a connection in real life because they’re apparently good friends.
Alexandra told the newspaper: “I did have a little chat and a joke with Angela Griffin about the rumours and that was quite funny.”
“Emma’s just come to the Street to work at Audrey’s as an apprentice and learn as much as she can.
“She’s independent and was living with friends before arriving. She is still in contact with her mum but just doing it for herself at the minute at the salon.”

So there you have it. There might not be a connection between Emma and Fiona on screen, but it looks like Emma is here to stay, and that’s the main thing.
