Actress Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha Alahan in Coronation Street, has been praised for her character's skin bleaching storyline.
Since returning from her trip to India, Asha has been using skin lightening cream.
However the cream has left Asha with bad burns and in Friday's episodes (October 4 2019) Asha's dad, Dev, discovered she had been using the cream.
After he tore her posters down in a fit of rage, Asha went to run away but was stopped by friend Amy Barlow's grandmother, Liz McDonald.
Liz made Asha realise her dad was worried about her and cared about her, but she also paid Dev a visit and told him he needed to listen to Asha.
Asha came home and told Dev how she believed she was ugly and hated what she saw when she looked in the mirror.
The teen explained how everyone uses the cream and although it hurts and burns her, she feels it's worth it to get lighter skin.
She also believed that having lighter skin would mean she would be more successful.
Viewers have praised the young actress for her performance.
