Ruxandra Porojnicu reveals Princess Eugenie’s input in Coronation Street’s slavery storyline

The royal does work with anti-slavery charities

Ruxandra Porojnicu has revealed she spoke to Princess Eugenie about Coronation Street’s modern day slavery storyline.

Actress Ruxandra appeared on Lorraine today (July 23 2019) to discuss her Corrie plot with stand-in host Christine Lampard.

The 26-year-old, who plays Alina Pop on the cobbles, revealed on her first day at Corrie she had a meeting with the Salvation Army team where she met a victim of modern slavery.

Christine revealed that Ruxandra had met with Princess Eugenie and asked what she said to the actress.

Ruxandra said: “She was so lovely, I was a bit overwhelmed you know, like, I’m meeting Princess Eugenie of York.

“But she was really nice and she was asking me about the storyline and how I find it.”

She also revealed the royal asked her when it was going to be on TV.

Princess Eugenie does a lot of charity work surrounding modern slavery. In 2016 she visited a safe house run by the Salvation Amry and met with victims of abuse and modern slavery.

In 2017 Eugenie launched The Anti-Slavery Collective with Julia De Boinville.

In 2018 as director of the Anti-Slavery collective Eugenie spoke at the NEXUS Global Summit and the UN headquarters in New York to end modern slavery.

Ruxandra’s character Alina first appeared in Coronation Street in April 2019 after Seb took a shine to her when he was asked to do a job at a nail bar.

He fell for Alina but it soon became clear that something wasn’t right as Alina kept worrying about what her boss Rachel would think.

Alina also revealed that Rachel was her landlord and didn’t want to do anything that would upset her.

Back when Seb and Alina first met, Alina ran off after seeing builder Jan on the street with Eileen.

But last week, it was revealed that Seb’s housemate Jan knows Alina when he popped into the nail bar and told her not to contact Seb as it was too dangerous.

Whilst some people believe Jan is involved with people trafficking, others think he could be an undercover police officer.

Viewers have also stated they would like to see Alina stay on the cobbles.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
