Lucy Fallon wants Bethany to go back to Italy when she departs Coronation Street

She will be leaving the soap next year

Lucy Fallon wants Coronation Street‘s Bethany Platt to go back to Italy when she leaves the soap.

The 23-year-old actress is hopeful “no bad things” will happen to her character – who she has played since 2015 – when she departs the cobbles in 2020, and she is keen for her alter-ego to return to the European country, where she spent half of her live with mum Sarah Platt before returning to Weatherfield four years ago.

She said: “If it was up to me she would leave in a really nice way, just going to Italy or something. Smiling and happy, no bad things happening. But we’ll see …”

Lucy is “hopeful” Bethany won’t be killed off, and she is keen to take on some more “dark” storylines right up until her exit next year.

She said: “I just think it’s just the right time really.

“Hopefully in the next year they can churn out some good ones. I like the dark ones.”

Bethany’s biggest storyline to date saw her groomed by evil Nathan Curtis, and she loved playing out the hard-hitting and would be keen to do similar hard-hitting storylines if she was sticking around in Weatherfield.

She added to RadioTimes.com: “If anything that storyline would’ve been the thing that I would want to stay because [of]. I loved it so much and I’d want to do more of those storylines.”

While nothing is ever certain in Soapland, Lucy recently assured fans she will be back on the cobbles at some point.

She said: “I will be sad, but I’m excited to see what’s going to happen in the future, although I have no idea what’s going to happen.

“When I leave I’ll have been there for five years, and I’ve never done anything else. But I’ll end up going back – I’ll be back.”

Coronation Street is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
