Coronation Street’s Dev Alahan is leaving the cobbles later this year.
Actor Jimmi Harkishin has announced he will be taking an extended break from the soap over the summer to go travelling.
The star will be celebrating his 20th year at the soap playing the local businessman.
And he has decided to celebrate with an epic holiday that will necessitate his character being written out of the soap for a while.
“This is actually my 20th year at Corrie,” he told the Messenger.

“My first appearance was on November 10, 1999, and I have loved every minute of it. I’ve been here that long that I am now an honorary Mancunian!
“Corrie bosses have very kindly let me have time off for two months to celebrate my 20th year, which I am very grateful for, so I am going to visit China and Japan.”
But holidays won’t be the only thing on the actor’s mind – he also revealed how he recently became a grandfather.
He added: “Recently I became a grandfather to a perfect little boy, but I’m on strict instructions from my daughter not to post anything about him online anywhere.
“I’ll just say that I wanted him to be called King Cantona, but she wasn’t having anything to do with it!”
While off-screen Jimmi’s life has been going well, on-screen Dev hasn’t had much to do on the cobbles.

It has been years since he was the central focus of a major plot and he has become more of a supporting character over recent times.
Fans have been wanting him back at the forefront of the cast, alongside his children Asha and Aadi.
The twins’ mother, Sunita, was killed in 2013 when she was murdered by her lover Karl Monro.
