Coronation Street’s Alexandra Mardell signs new contract to stay on cobbles

She's going nowhere

Alexandra Mardell has revealed good news for Coronation Street fans – she’s sticking around on the cobbles.

The actress has been breaking hearts with her recent performance as Emma Brooker.

Last week saw her lose the man she thought was her father, but not before discovering he wasn’t actually her real dad.

After it turned out her mum was old Corrie face Fiona Middleton, and Fiona confirmed that the man Emma was grieving wasn’t her biological father, Emma was distraught.

Things got even more complicated when Steve McDonald revealed he was her real dad after taking some of her hair for a DNA test.

Emma is set to flee after realising the truth, but fans who were worried this would signify an exit for the character needn’t fear.

Alexandra, who has been on the show for just over a year, told The Daily Star: “I do still feel like a relative newbie.

“You’ve got people that have been in the show for decades, and I think you need to clock up at least five years before you feel any different.

“I’ve just signed a new contract and I’m more than happy to stay for as long as they’ll have me.”

Although she didn’t reveal how long the new contract would last, it’s sure there’s still plenty of drama in this storyline yet.

With no other family on the Street, Emma is set to bond with the McDonald clan, but how will she find having Tracy as a stepmother?!

The actress recently revealed the very personal connection behind this storyline by sharing a tribute to her own late father, Michael, who passed away in 2016.

She wrote: “This one’s for you Dad. So honoured I was given the chance to take on the story of Emma’s loss.

“This will always be one of the most meaningful stories to play for me. Something so important that I could truly relate to.”

Alexandra’s father died three years ago from heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and the actress has previously revealed they didn’t even know he had the condition until he died.

3 of my favourite picis for the 3 years since he passed. I miss his crazy self, and always will. I wish he could have seen all the exciting things that have happened for our family over these past 3 years. You used to call me you’re angel, now you’re mine. In 2016 my Dad suddenly passed away from Cardiomyopathy, a heart disease we had never heard of and were unaware he had. This year I am going to take part in the Great Manchester Run, to raise awareness which could hopefully prevent other families from suffering from this so suddenly. Knowledge is power. Please take the time to have a look at @cardiomyopathyuk. And if anyone is able to donate, (link in bio) I would truly appreciate your support. “This year I am going to take part in the Great Manchester Run to raise awareness which could hopefully prevent other families from suffering from this so suddenly.”

Alexandra then revealed in May that she completed the challenge and finished off her message of thanks for all her supporters saying: “For you Dad.”
